I'm sure One Wish has been given up for dead. Never fear, I have changed jobs, I have adjusted to life in my new apartment, I have accepted the fact I will die without ever having a date, and I have found the time to work on One Wish again.
I've also started a deviantART account. One, for posting artwork of the characters you've come to love and hate. (I think I'm a halfway decent artist, even if I'll never be good enough to make any money off it.) Two, for reposting One Wish after I edit all the early chapters. (Rereading it was painful, especially watching how the characters moved away from who they were originally. I've got to fix all of Mischa's early stuff, and some of Matsuro's, and some of everybody else, and weed out all the crap I put in to give myself room for the story to grow into and it didn't go that way...)
Anyways. Not dead yet. Four pages of the new chapter finished. Questions are answered, because Yoshi is just cool like that. Rituals are performed, magic is pretty and sparkly and color-symbolic. Yay.Current Mood: cheerful

I'm a horrible, horrible person. I've got a tiring 7-whenever job that leaves me too exhausted to even bathe properly (I end up standing in the shower and staring at the wall wondering why I forgot to take my bathrobe off. This actually happened. It's far too hot in Florida to have a job without air conditioning. Drains the energy and the brains right out of you.) What time I have had to myself- and been coherent for- I've been reading. (The latest Harry Potter book has put me back in Potter-mania mode like I haven't been in four years...) But, at dreadfully long last, chapter twenty-eight is finally up. Rejoice, while I go and try to remember which knob is hot water and which one is cold.
I will also try to fit in more time to work on One Wish. I refuse to leave it uncompleted.Current Mood: drained

I think I've died and gone to Heaven. I finally got around to joining the IYFG- had accidentally tried to join during the voting period and got told "Hey stupid, come back Memorial Day!" Well, not really, but you get the idea. So I get an email saying the application's been accepted (this being Memorial Day), and first thing I do is look for poll results.

One Wish won the Action/Adventure category. Words escape me. Which is bad, because when it comes to writing, I can be very verbose. I'm going to go sit in a daze with a goofy smile on my face, m'kay?Current Mood: jubilant

"Of course I don't look busy... I did it right the first time." - Higurashi Souta
Souta becomes something of an original character in One Wish. After all, in the original series, he’s what, eight? And people change a great deal between eight and fifteen. In the series, he’s easily accepting of who Inu-Yasha is and has the hugest case of hero-worship I have ever come across. He still has that here- he’s lackadaisical about what people look like or what their family is like, and his case of hero-worship transferred over to his teacher, Yoshi. Admittedly, Souta’s very good friends with the man, but there’s still that ‘role model’ quality to the relationship. ( Continued )Current Mood: chipper

Shorter than is my normal chapter twenty-seven finally uploaded. Who knows why ff.net was down every time I tried to upload the file? And hey, it beat my 'update in a month or commit seppuku' deadline by a matter of hours! Thankfully, I've already gotten started on twenty-eight. (Mostly because it's the extensions of the final two scenes for 27 before I realized I had far too much to say, and trimming them down might be best, considering the main focus of the chapter- wrapping up a great deal of the physical confrontations.)Current Mood: aggravated

Chapter Twenty-Seven officially finished, within my maximum update hiatus of one month (though only just barely). The ff.net servers are currently saying I'm stupid and can't log in and upload documents, so I'll try again tomorrow.

» IY Fanguild Nomination v.2
Holy freaking cow. One Wish now has a nomination for best Action/Adventure. I hadn't realized it *was* an action story. Besides, you know, this last chapter. And some sporadic appearances of poorly written fights in earlier chapters. I'd always thought if I was going to apply a secondary genre, it would be *mystery*, not action/adventure.
Anyways, just an update on what they've been telling me. I'm so giddy you'd think I was a five year old who'd just finished off a bag of candy. (Because Chri, who nominated me for this one, has got to be one of the most talented writers and most helpful criticd you can find on ff.net.) I should probably get around to joining the Yahoo! group. =) (This however, would mean I'd need to take a break from the creative high I've been on the past couple days, and who knows when my muse will strike again.)

Finally got started on writing chapter twenty-seven. I had finals and such-like to do, so One Wish had to take the back-burner for a bit.
I've also gotten started on writing the epilogue. This is a problem I get with stories that get too long- I'll write scenes well in advance of when they're going to show up. This is probably not going to be the epilogue that finally ends up being posted, but I wanted to at least get the ideas down. After the story is completed, I'll probably also post follow-ups to wrap up what happens to the more minor characters. The epilogue for One Wish itself will concern primarily only Kagome. After all, it's her story.
And now I'm going to have to confess that Inu-Yasha (the character, not the show!) really pisses me off. He's a jerk, possessive, violent, and if he lived in our era, he'd be one of those assholes who always gets coo'ed over by the girls, even though his head's so far up his ass he's breathing shit. Kagome could be such a strong character, but she always lets his insults get to her. Inu-Yasha doesn't deserve her. (I have to confess that, when it comes to reading fanfiction, I *love* the Kagome/Miroku pairing. Not that Sango isn't cool.) I suppose that's why Inu-Yasha comes across so bad in Three Musketeers. I probably should finish watching the series (I've only seen through episode 70 or so) before drawing any final conclusions, but there's a shonen-ness to the series that leaves me doubting the characterization will grow beyond what it already is.

» IY Fanguild Nomination
Your ever so humble and procrastinating author received the most awesome email in the world today. One Wish has been nominated and seconded for the Best Continuing Fiction (of 1st Quarter 2005)for the Inu Yasha Fanfiction Guild.
I don't care if it doesn't get any votes. (For that matter, if I was actually a member of the yahoo group, I'd be voting for Sari15's Legend of the Hanyou. It is far superior.) What matters is that there are people out there who love my story enough to think it worthy of an IYFG nomination. Just that is enough to make me happy for a month. (Any votes and it'll make my year. *grins*)
(It's repeat reviewers that tell me people love my story. Otherwise I go all Piro and get depressed about how I suck at writing. Luckily, this is not an unfamiliar mental state for me, and I easily ignore it and continue the fight to find out how my story ends. Sad that I don't know how it ends. Well, I have different versions of the end, depending for how realistic and pessimistic I am at the time of actually writing that, it's just getting there that's the problem. And what's worse is that I can't even get my fellow IY-lover friend to read it because she thinks it's too long. *sigh* I'm far too insecure about my own ability as a writer. And I have the horrible feeling that most of us are.)
I love my story, but there are so many areas that I need to go back to and rewrite, or completely rescript... No editting until completion. Otherwise I'd never get finished.
( Here's the letter in its entirety. )

"Sex may not be the meaning of life, but it’s a great way to pass the time until we figure out what is." - Matsuro
Mat is the quintessential kitsune. He’s got a mobile face that betrays nothing of his inner thoughts, can lie like a pro, and thinks about sex ninety percent of the time. Nobody’s certain what the other ten percent is. ( Continued )

Chapter Twenty Six of One Wish posted. Please don't laugh at my horrible attempt at writing action. *hides* I'm the creative sort, the ideas girl. I'm not the 'can draw you a picture with words' girl. But I tried. And that's the best I can offer.
Any takers on guessing what happened to Hizashi and Mischa, or where Kino left for? And the greatest question of all- how long has Yoko been impersonated by his supposedly dead daughter-in-law?

» Shikon no Tama Translation
Researching an upcoming scene in One Wish, I came across an interesting sentence:
"It should be noted that while Motoori includes the term tama (spirit) as one of the awe-inspiring beings making up the category of kami, such spirits were apparently not originally considered the same as kami." - Ito Mikiharu, "Evolution of the Concept of Kami"
Further reading of the same article explains that the tama were the predecessors of the kami, going by belief purposes. It is more the concept of a spirit or soul more than the actual spirit itself.
Going by that, could Shikon no Tama not be the Jewel of Four Souls, but the Spirit of Four Souls?
In One Wish, there aren't four souls. There are four main territories presided over by some of the most powerful youkai in existence. Symbolically speaking, they could be the four souls spoken of. And the spirit... The one who controls them. The Dragon Emperor, who disappeared thousands of years ago.
Kagome is not the Dragon Emperor. But who's to say the Shikon no Tama is not?
This is a big giveaway to anyone bored enough to read this and who has read what I've got so far of One Wish. I'm terribly vague in hints, but this one's dressed in spandex and doing the hula, shouting "here's a hint!"
To completely give it away...
( Not just a spoiler. THE Spoiler. )

» Character Study: Mischa
"Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me." - Meirin Mischando
Mischa is older than One Wish. She has existed in a vague form for many years, but it was only when drawing up the reincarnations for the story that I found a place that she would thrive. As much as a bitter, insane, violent woman can. Like it or not, Mischa is clinically insane, considering the fact that she has multiple personality disorder (I think it's got a new name, but hell if I know what the condition is called). It translates to being a half-demon in the Inu-Yasha world, but she was a mere human in her first incarnation. My characters are all pieces of myself, and Mischa is the part of me that I refuse to let out. (For those of you who read Naruto, think Inner Sakura. We'd kick ass, if we weren't so hidden behind masks.)

Chapter 25 of One Wish posted. Finally. For such a short chapter, it sure gave me a lot of hell. Expect poorly written combat scenes come chapter 26. Do try to keep laughter to a minimum. =)
Two side stories already posted here uploaded into the Outtakes section as well.

Chapter 24 posted!
I'm currently doing a rather depressing thing and running down my list of characters and deciding who should die and who will get to see things to the end. It will undoubtedly change as I continue to figure out how to get the physical representation of the Shikon no Tama back in existence. (The statement that a pure, unselfish wish would destroy it once and for good was nothing but an old wives' tale, and Kagome's wish was selfish. She didn't want to feel the pain of her friends' deaths anymore.) I've already decided how Kagome would resolve that (even named the chaper!), but I need to get through a lot of other things before she realizes what she has done and what she must do. And unfortunately, a lot of that entails killing off my characters. The only certain death is Mischa and the only one gauranteed to see the end of the story is Souta, but the rest are dependent on my mood. This includes Kagome herself.

Chapter 24 is finished! Barring title and opening quote, anyway. I'm trying to get a bit more written of 25 done before I post it, since I'm really trying to get to the confrontation between the dragons and the taiyoukai. (There's a lot more going on behind the scenes than the younger generation, excluding Fukii, are aware of. And it plays a major part in their recent actions.)
To cheer you up, here's a bit of completely unrelated silliness. I love my kitsunes and can't help but write little drabbles (four page drabbles....) about them.
Summary: A third-person point of view of why to give a kitsune child what she wants. Mischa learns the hard way not to say "no" to Chame and Kagome is proven right that Mischa would look stellar in red. Matsuro learns to be subtler about trying to check out someone with heightened senses.

Surprise gift for those of you who read this. I'm not certain if this will make it into chapter 24 or if I'll have to save it for another chapter. It should explain a bit of what Kino is trying to do. It should also clear up what happened to the missing wolf.
If you come across any mistakes or anything that needs clearing up, comment on it and I'll try to fix it. ( In the Dragon's Lair )

Still working furiously on the next chapter. I got bitten by the writing bug and will likely have to split the entire thing into two parts. (I’m too damn wordy! But I’m having so much fun giving little insights into the characters’ histories that I can’t help myself.) Should this happen, both chapters will be uploaded at the same time. (To make up for the extra long wait…)
Actually, the main reason I’m yet again posting is to dwell upon the concept of good and evil in my story. In case you haven’t noticed, beyond Kagome (and most other main character humans...), there really aren’t any truly good people in One Wish. They’re just regular people- part black, part white, all with faults, all with good points.
( Without sorrow, how would one know true happiness? )
